Eliminating the Black/White Wealth Divide

Why does the wealth gap between white families and black families continue to widen? This panel will consist of financial experts from different industries to delve deeper into this topic of preserving and growing wealth in minority communities. The panel discussion will focus on the financial challenges faced and the best ways to overcome these challenges to preserve wealth. It will also focus on historical social inequities and how this impacts the growing divide that exists today.

Fred Greene

Co-Founder of Project Destined

Fred Greene III is a commercial real estate developer and social entrepreneur committed to community development and capacity building for minority youth. A native Washingtonian Fred has over 14 years of diversified real estate development, investment and economic development experience and has been involved in over 3 Million square feet of commercial development.

Fred is the Managing Partner of FLGA Real Estate Group, a 100% minority owned real estate development and investment firm based out of Washington DC. Started in 1995 by his father, Former Director of Planning for the District of Columbia – Fred Greene, FLGA has an active development portfolio of over 2M SF with over $500 Million in value. Of note, FLGA is the master developer for Howard University’s East Campus site – an approximately 24 acre parcel in the District of Columbia.

Fred is also Co-Founder of Project Destined, a 501c3 non-profit that trains urban youth how to be stakeholders of change, as opposed to bystanders of change, in the communities in which they operate. Launched in the Fall of 2016, Project Destined takes cohorts of scholars from various cities across the nation through a multi day training program where they gain exposure to all aspects of real estate development and investment, thus transforming its scholars into real estate analysts. Project Destined then partners with proven institutional operators to invest in qualified multifamily projects and grants 20% of its real estate profits to the students for scholarship capital. To date, Project Destined has successfully administered programming in 7 major cities (Detroit, Memphis, Miami, NYC, Oakland, Chicago and Atlanta), has trained over 300 students, has invested in over 1500 units of housing and has deployed over 100k in scholarship capital to its students.

Fred holds his B.S. in Business Administration from Georgetown University and his MBA from the University of Chicago.

Mandell Crawley

Head of Private Wealth at Morgan Stanley

Mandell L. Crawley is a Managing Director and the Head of Private Wealth Management, the division that exclusively serves ultra-high net worth individuals, families, and their foundations both in the US and abroad. Mandell is also co-head of the Institutional Client Coverage group -- which provides middle market institutions with research, sales coverage and execution capabilities across Equities and Fixed Income.

Mandell was previously, the Chief Marketing Officer for the Firm. In this role, he had overall responsibility for defining, creating, and delivering Morgan Stanley’s marketing strategy.

Mandell was also Head of National Business Development and Talent Management for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management where he led an organization responsible for driving growth across the firm’s industry leading platform and improving the proficiency of our financial advisors, sales support, and branch leadership talent.

Mandell also served as Head of U.S. Fixed Income Sales & Distribution for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management’s Capital Markets Group. In total, he spent 14 of his 26 years working within Capital Markets in various producing & managerial capacities.

He is a member of Morgan Stanley’s Management Committee, Global Securities Operating Committee, Global Wealth Management Operating Committee, and the Multicultural Client Strategy Committee. He is also a National Trustee for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Mandell received an MBA with honors from Fordham University (New York City) and a B.A. in Economics from Northeastern Illinois University (Chicago). He resides in Westchester County, NY with his wife Alison, and twin daughters, Jordyn and Jaedyn. Mandell is a proud native of Chicago, IL.

Stratford Dennis ‘17

Managing Director at Goldman Sachs

Stratford is Head of Americas Growth Markets Equities Trading including Cash, Synthetics and Derivatives.  In this role, he focuses on coordinating trading risk, prioritizing resources and creating content to better serve the Equities Growth Markets franchise.

Previously, Stratford worked on the Index Volatility desk and also managed the Emerging Markets Equity Volatility desk.  He joined Goldman Sachs in 2004 as an analyst and was named Managing Director in 2013.

Stratford serves on the Board of Directors for Avon Old Farms School and the Leadership Council for PeacePlayers International.

Stratford earned a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
